So, Apple's doing layoffs now? After all that "we're different" BS? Give me a freakin' break.

The "We Care" Lie

"To connect with even more customers, we are making some changes in our sales team that affect a small number of roles,” says the Apple spokesperson. Translation: “We over-hired, made some bad bets, and now a few dozen people are gonna be scrambling for a new gig right before the holidays. But hey, it's just a small number.”

Yeah, "small" to a company sitting on a mountain of cash. Try telling that to the account managers who just got the axe. Or the folks running those briefing centers – you know, the places where they schmooze potential clients with overpriced gadgets? Guess those aren't so important anymore.

What really chaps my hide is the corporate-speak. "Optimize and simplify sales processes." It's like they think we're all idiots. Are they really trying to sell this as a good thing?

And the timing? Late November? Real classy, Apple. Real classy.

The "Opportunity" Illusion

Oh, but don't worry, the laid-off employees have until January 20th to find another job within Apple. How generous! It's like dangling a carrot in front of a starving donkey. “Hey, we fired you, but maybe, just maybe, you can find another spot in this giant corporate maze. Good luck competing with all the other terrified employees!”

And offcourse, there's the classic "severance package." The unspecified severance package. Which probably amounts to a slap in the face and a pat on the back as they escort you out the door.

Last time Apple did this was with the self-driving car project. Remember that boondoggle? They dumped 600 people. Six. Hundred. This "small number" stuff is just damage control.

It's not just Apple, of course. Amazon, Microsoft, Verizon, IBM... they're all at it. "Streamlining," "restructuring," "optimizing." It's the same song and dance, different verses. Makes you wonder if these CEOs just get together at some secret Silicon Valley club and compare layoff numbers.

The Future is... More Layoffs?

Glassdoor is even predicting "forever layoffs." Small, repeated cuts all the time. Sounds like a delightful dystopia.

But hey, Apple's investing $500 billion in the US! Twenty thousand new hires! See? Everything's fine! Except for the dozens (or hundreds?) who just lost their jobs.

I wonder if Tim Cook sleeps soundly at night. I mean, he said layoffs were a "last resort." Guess they ran out of other options? Or maybe, just maybe, the pressure to keep those stock prices soaring is a little more important than employee loyalty. What do I know.

Give Me a Break...

This ain't about "optimization." It's about greed. Plain and simple. They screwed up, and now the little guys are paying the price.
